Stefan P. Schmid
Welcome to my website!
I am a doctoral researcher in the Digital Chemistry Laboratory of Kjell Jorner at ETH Zurich and as an associated PhD to the ETH AI Center. Prior, I obtained my Master’s degree in chemistry with distinction from ETH Zurich as a fellow of the Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Programme. In this programme, I worked in the groups of Gunnar Jeschke to study zeolite catalyst deactivation via EPR and Christophe Copéret to study molybdenum-based catalysts via NMR. For my Master’s thesis, I was a visiting student at the University of Toronto in the group of Alán Aspuru-Guzik. This work was awarded the IBM Research Prize, the ETH Medal and the S. & N. Blank Prize.
My research aims to accelerate the study and discovery of catalysts by utilizing modern developments in machine learning. I develop chemistry-informed algorithms that integrate existing chemistry knowledge into ML algorithms. The goal of this work is to reduce the number of costly experiments that have to be carried out and facilitate the discovery of novel catalysts.
If you are interested in me and my work, you can find more information under the [Resume] and [Publications] sections, respectively! If you want to get in touch, feel free to reach out on social media (left)!
